JAMES WITHERELL SEELYE, [Riverside, Ill.], son of Henry E. and Henrietta W. (Hurd) Seelye, was born in Chicago, Ill., July 5, 1858; fitted for college at Lake Forest Academy, 111. Union T. S., '81 — '82 ; Auburn T. S., '82— '84 ; ord., (Presb.) Cayuga, N. Y., May, 1884. Miss., Trebizond, Eastern Turkey, one year, and at Constantinople. Translated a number of hymns into Greek and prepared four pamphlets of comments upon the International Sunday School lessons and three tracts in Greek ; returned to this country in the summer of 1889 in ill-health ; p.. First Cong, church, Olney, Ill., Nov. '89 — Dec. '90; Presb. church, Shawneetown, Ill., '90 — '92. In ill health. Phoenix, Ariz., '82 — '93. Died of chronic pneumonia, March 27, 1893. Married, in St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 14, 1889, Laura Tucker, dau. of Henry Tucker of Cedar Rapids, Ia. One child.
