Hello, I have just visisted your site and thought you might be interested in my Seeleys.
I have not researched the records for these people yet, I am climbing a different tree right now. The information was supplied by Tom and Laura (nee Mayne)Seeley. They are written and well organized family records with many photos so I am confident they are accurate. There are lots of dates missing and not much insight into the people yet. Most of the family lives in Grey County, Ontario. The original county of settlement. I understand that William born 1843 moved to Ontario. I do not know how many brothers or sisters moved or to where. The town of Moy straddles Cos. Tyrone and Armagh.
Many Seeleys moved to Saskatchewan during the depression, including Tom and many came back. Tom's kids are scattered through the west and in Yukon.
Talk has it that our Seeleys came from the Isle of Scilly to Cork then north, but I think England is a more likely origin, the travel through Cork may be accurate. Some day I will know for sure. I have made some preliminary searches but have found no records of anyone named Scilly on the said Isle. The name could have been adopted anyway.
The spelling of the name was changed around the time the family came to Canada. I did a quick search of Griffiths Valuation and found a few of the family around the town of Moy. The name was spelt both ways in GV. I have yet to visit Wally Seeley (39) he is the most aware of the family history.
The only ancestor of note here is Mabel Priscilla Guy, dau of William Guy son of Thomas Medler Guy. They are descendents of the Guy family in England of which there is a hospital named after the philanthropic family. I would love to hear your insight, particularly any knowledge you have of the family in Ireland.
