Idella M. Benson

LITTLE FALLS – Idella M. Benson, 91 formerly of the Bronner Road, Little Falls and more recent of the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at that residence.

She was born on July 1, 1916 in the town of Fairfield the daughter of the late William H. and Delcia (Avery) Seeley and step daughter of the late Hazel (Meyers) Seeley. She was educated in Little Falls schools.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Leavenworth on August 23, 1935 at the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mr. Leavenworth predeceased her on June 5, 1985. In December of 1945 she was united in marriage to Heman Benson, who also predeceased her on October 16, 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dolgeville. As well as a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union Local # 345.

Mrs. Benson was employed at one time in the shipping department of the former Melrose Slipper Co., Little Falls and was last employed in that same capacity for over 28 years by the former Allegro Shoe Corp., Little Falls retiring in 1978.

She is survived by 2 sons Raymond (Rip) Leavenworth, Jr. and his wife Janet, Pomona Park, FL and Heman W. Benson and his wife Carolyn , Dolgeville, 2 daughters Delcia Urich and her husband Fred (Fritz), Little Falls and Janet Klock, Little Falls, a brother Gordon Seeley and his wife Ora, Stratford, a special daughter in law Sue Benson, Utica, 18 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Roy W. Leavenworth, on August 19, 2000, 2 brothers, Frederick Seeley in 1978 and Bernard Seeley on February 28, 2006, 2 sisters Dorothy Mercer on February 5, 1997 and Lucille Bowers on February 7, 1997 and a son in law Vernon Klock on December 30, 2002.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb, officiating. Interment will take place in Dibble-Tuttle Cemetery, town of Salisbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 9-11am and to attend the funeral services to follow.
