Mary Eleanor Seeley BORDNER
Born May 29, 1925 passed away gracefully on May 26, 2009. She was a third generation Seattleite, her parents were Horace and Irene Seeley. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Owen Bordner and four living children, Steve Bordner (Betty), Jan Marr (David), Thomas Bordner (Susie), Bret Bordner (Joan), and her late son Charles Roy Bordner (Cindy). She dearly loved each of her 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
They all shared her love for the family cabin on Camano Island which has been a home away from home and retreat for Mary and Roy for almost 55 years. Her last request was to spend the day at the beach surrounded by her family, which she did on May 24th.
Mary loved the world and especially the people in it. She was very active in the community including being a Cub Scout Den Mother, Blue Bird and Campfire Girl Leader, PTA Ski Chairman, active volunteer in the Seattle School Busing Program, President of Women's Fellowship and Superfluity Sale and Sunday school teacher at University Congregational Church, and President of the King County Republican Women Association. Mary attended Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington. Her inquisitive mind led her to be a lifelong student as she pursued her degree at the U of W into 2009.
Mary was a very active person. She swam across Lake Washington several times and walked around Green Lake almost daily in her later years. She and Roy loved snow and water skiing; she was still an active member of "The Ancient Skiers Club", and both she and Roy attended the annual Sun Valley meeting in January. They were also floatplane pilots and enjoyed many years flying in the Northwest and British Columbia. When they retired their plane they continued to cruise the San Juan Islands in their boat, aptly named Done Fly'n. Her family continues to share her love for boating.
She was very proud of her grandparents' missionary-educator contributions to the Alaskan Eskimos. She enjoyed giving slide show presentations of their adventures in Alaska and the books written about them.
Mary considered each of her children to be God's most wonderful gift. She strove always to be a good communicator and encourager to each child. They were her love and joy. She will be deeply missed, but we'll remember her as we follow her example to live life to the fullest.
A private family memorial service will be held on Friday June 5th at the Hearthstone, followed by a reception for friends and family from 3pm-5pm.
The family requests that remembrances be made to the Marsha Rivkin Center.
