Ruth "Nubby" Bowers

Ruth "Nubby" Bowers, 64, Manhattan, died Sunday, July 20, at the Mercy Regional Health Center.

She was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Hinsdale, Ill., the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Boyd) Seeley.

She received her bachelor of science degree in education at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and had served as president of the Panhellenic Society. She also attended graduate school in education at Colorado University.

She was a homemaker and had been an elementary school teacher for 16 years at Downers Grove, Ill.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Downers Grove and was a member of the Sedalia Community Church in Manhattan.

She was married Dec. 21, 1963, in Downers Grove, Ill., to Larry Bowers. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, Daniel Bowers, Manhattan; one daughter, Amanda Bowers, Downers Grove, Ill.; one sister, Mary Margaret Easton, Downers Grove, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sedalia Community Church northwest of Manhattan with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Graveside inurnment services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Ida Cemetery northeast of Munden. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Inc.
