Lizetta Seely Bush

Lizetta Seely Bush 1913 ~ 2006 A great and classy lady, Lizetta Seely Bush, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006 of natural causes. She was born February 10, 1913 in Eden, Idaho to Richard Bruce Seely and Pauline Hafen Seely. When she was still very young, her parents moved back to Mt. Pleasant, Utah where she was raised and received her elementary, junior high and high school education. She knew early on that she wanted to be a school teacher. She took her schooling very serious and was very competitive in all of her classes. She was very adamant about completing all of her education. After she graduated from high school, it was the time of the Great Depression. There wasn't money to be had. But Lizetta knew she had to go. Her father, being the wonderful father he was, sold some supplies to see that she could go. She then graduated from Snow College. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from BYU in Provo and a Master of Science degree from the University of Utah. She, then, went on to get 63 hours, with a four point average, on her Doctorate degree.

During the summer of 1938, she fulfilled a short-term mission in the Western States. She joined Aerospace National Education Department of N.A.S.A. at Weber State College in 1964. She went on a World Education tour in 1967 with the Aerospace International study group. She met and studied under Dr. Werner Von Braun and his associates in New York. She studied in France, Germany, England, Italy and the major cities around the world. She was fortunate to be invited to almost every American Embassy. She was lucky enough to visit the "Taj Mahal" while in India. She earned 15 credit hours on that tour. In 1968, she helped write a "Course of Study" for the state of Utah Education Department on Aerospace. She was then invited to N.A.S.A. where she met many men of science, including seeing Dr. Werner Von Braun again in Huntsville, Alabama. Later, she went to Colorado Springs to study jet propulsion and rocketry. She taught school for 45 years and truly loved her work and loved the children. She spent most of her life in a schoolroom, either teaching or going to school.
