Evelyn M. Chalker

Age 91, of Durand, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007, at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso.

Mrs. Chalker had worked at DVA as a dispatcher and had worked at a Flint travel agency.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Congregational Church in Durand, with the Rev. Jon Clifton and the Rev. John Walworth officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Durand, Tuesday evening 6 to 8 p.m., with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.

Evelyn was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Monroeville, Ohio, the youngest child of Edward and Bertha Pearl (Wiggins) Seely. She graduated from Monroeville High School and married Chester F. Chalker on June 6, 1936, in Norwalk, Ohio. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1989.

She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Durand, volunteering help at their roast beef dinners and helping with office duties for many years. She was also active in the Hulda Chapter 212 Order of Eastern Star, while maintaining her membership in the Allstar Chapter of Oak Lawn, Ill.

Survivors include: two nieces, Katherine "uzie" and Carl Ayres of Warsaw, Ky., and Linda and William Friese of Effingham, Ill.

She was predeceased by her three brothers, Clarence, Forest, and Wade.

She will be missed by her many friends from her church and community, and by her constant companion, her toy poodle, Micky.

Memorials are suggested to the church.
