40 great-grandchildren survive world traveler

S. Elizabeth Davis, 91, of Benton passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 24, 2011, after a four-month residency at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville. She had been in failing health since July.

She was born June 10, 1920, in Berwick, and was a daughter of the late Howard and Jessie Cope Seely. She lived much of her life in Berwick and Salem Township, then the last six years in Benton.

Elizabeth attended school in the Berwick area and Brooklyn, N.Y.

She worked many years as a waitress and later in life provided personal care to senior citizens.

Elizabeth was a member of Beach Haven United Methodist Church and at one time was very active in the Berwick Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed worldwide traveling and socializing with friends. Elizabeth was a hard worker, honest, trustworthy and taught her children to work hard and never tell fibs. She hated gossiping, wasn't a complainer and was very feisty and independent. When she was younger, Elizabeth spent a lot of time caring for her siblings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Davis, who died in 1976, ending a marital span of 41 years. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Engle; and five brothers: George, Clark, Frank, Maurice and Ernest Seely; and two grandsons: Todd Davis and Christopher Pszeniczny.

She is survived by four sons: Harold Davis and his wife, Donna, of Wilkes-Barre; Ronald Davis and his wife, Sue, of East Hampton, Mass.; Glenn Davis and his wife, Bonnie, of Berwick; Gary Davis of Durham, N.C.; three daughters: Darla Pszeniczny and her husband, John, of Benton; Nancy Vought and her husband, Raymond, of Bloomsburg; and Cindy Hoyt of Berwick; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Jessie Hosler; Cora Hummel and her husband, Fred, Jeanette Heller and her husband, Ike; Virginia Barnes and her husband, Frank, all of Berwick; and Gladys Peters and her husband, Frank, of Arizona.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Dec. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. Larry Kreischer, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Visitation for friends will be held Wednesday evening, Dec. 28, 2011, from 6-8 at the funeral home.
