ELETA EMMALINE DUREN

Dennysville and Lubec -- Eleta Emmaline Duren, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Eleta was born in Dennysville on January 31, 1921, daughter of the late Emery and Delia Seeley. Eleta graduated from Dennysville High School and went to work for the civil service as an x-ray tech in Washington, D.C. She continued to contribute to her family in Dennysville. Eleta returned to Washington County, where she met and married her husband Elmer and started a family of her own. She was involved in community projects and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekahs. The past several years, Eleta has resided at the Oceanview Nursing Home in Lubec, where she made many lasting friendships. She was a strong, independent woman, who took life in stride. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer E. Duren; one daughter, Jacqueline Phyllis, one son, Edward Duren, one grandson, Wade Gallagher, and one great-granddaughter, Abbegail Joy. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Cooke of Baileyville, and Dawn Gallagher of Wilsons Beach, NB; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be forever sadly missed by her family and friends. Abiding by her wishes, there will not be a funeral. There will be a small graveside service, at a later date, at the Dennysville Cemetery. A cremation service of Washington County Cremation Center.
