Geraldine Brewer Gilstrap Blair, 82, of Arkansas City died Friday, March 7, 2003 at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m, Monday, March 10, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. The Reverend Danny Daniel and the Reverend Joyce Daniel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Geraldine was born April 2, 1920 the oldest daughter of Myron Ray & Myrtle Ivy (Brewer) Seeley in Arkansas City. She attended Arkansas City schools, graduating from the high school in 1938 and the junior college in 1940. Geraldine was active in the choir, orchestra and was a Queen Alahlah attendant in 1939. She also served as a reporter for the school newspaper. On June 2, 1940 she married Jack Gilstrap at her parents home by Dr. Fred Maier. The union was blessed by two sons. Jack preceded her in on April 23, 1960. Geraldine married Chester Blair on August 9, 1975 and the family increased with Chets daughter, Judy. Chet preceded her in death on November 15, 1986.
She worked several years in the Seeleys Music Store and she and Jack owned Gilstrapss Tarkio Electric from 1949 to 1952. Geraldine taught piano for many years in her home and after Jacks death she worked as a legal secretary for Stitzel and Thoma Architects, Tom Pringle, George Sybrant, Barbour-Collison Title & Abstract, Hickman & Mills, and Iverson & Iverson. She was known to hundred as Grandma at the high school where she was the lunch room monitor and worked the pass gate at the high school events. Geraldine was an active campaign organizer for the Presbyterian Manor. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, participating in the Mariners Club, Circles, Edith Cox Guild, Womens Association and Adult Sunday School Class. She had served in many capacities including pianist, Sunday School teacher, cub scout mother, deaconess, elder, and Stated Clerk of the Session. She belonged to Music Club, Fortnightly, Federated Womens Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and more recently had been involved in activities of the Class of 1938. Geraldine loved flowers and house pants and spent many hours in her flower beds. She fed birds and squirrels and gave treats to the neighborhood dogs and cats.
She is survived by her two sons, Ray Gilstrap and his wife, Jeanne of Scandia, KS, Mike Gilstrap and his wife, Susan of Omaha, NE; step daughter, Judy Stevenson and her husband, John of Sierra Vista, AZ; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Bailyn McDaniel and Chris Cherry. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and a sister, Ernestine Clark. A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
