Ardus Eyvonne Seely Hazen, 86, North Ogden, died Thursday, Oct. 22. Ardus Seely Hazen
(February 11, 1923 - October 22, 2009)
Ardus Eyvonne Seely Hazen, 86, died Thursday, October 22, 2009, and was reunited with her husband, John “Jack”, son, Kevan Scott “Roscoe”, parents, Pansy and Elwyn Seely, and brother and sister-in-law, Dwayne “Bud” and Pat Seely.
Ardus was born February 11, 1923 in Willard, Utah. The family lived in the Willard area until Ardus was 10 years old. In 1936, neighbors who banged on their door to alert them that a flood was coming awakened the family. The family made it out, but the house was destroyed. They moved to Brigham City and purchased a home on East Forest Street, which they remolded into a show place where she was raised until she left home.
Ardus was active in the band during her high school days, and she and her sister, Adele, won first place as Adagio Dancers at many events. She later attended Woodbury College in California and Weber State in Ogden. She was known for her beauty, outgoing personality and willingness to participate and help at all levels.
She met her husband and love of her life, John George Hazen, on a New Year’s Eve blind date and they were married June 1, 1950 in Helena, Montana. They ran a dude ranch in Helena and also a portrait studio in Seattle, Washington before settling down in Ogden. They loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and horseback riding. As a couple they were active in the Weber County Sheriffs Mounted Posse and enjoyed their western lifestyle. Together they loved to entertain and share their beautiful ranch home in Marriott with family and friends.
Most of her career was at Hill Air Force Base where she retired as the administrative officer to the comptroller following 30 years of service.
Ardus was a member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does organization since 1975 and served as President, District President and Chaplain. She served on the Management Committee of Three Fountains North Condos for many years.
Ardus loved to play cards and games of any kind. She spent countless hours making beautiful afghans to give to family, friends and several charities. She loved to garden and tend to her roses. Most of all she loved her son and family and spending time with them. Ardus will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her son, Ryne (Teresa) Hazen, two grandchildren, Toya and Tyrone, three sisters, Sharyn Jackson, Adele Beal, Jacki Kirby, and two brothers, Michael Seely and Dr. J. Rodman Seely.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
