Ninety-One Years

The funeral of Mrs. J.S. Howe was held from Wessendorf & Staffler’s undertaking parlors Sunday afternoon at 3:30. Interment private, Rev. J.B. Orr officiating. Mrs. Fred D. McPherson sang. Her three grandchildren, who were able to be present, and her only son, were the pall bearers.

Mrs. Howe was born at St. George, New Brunswick, coming to California in 1852. A greater part of her life since was spent in Santa Cruz county, her home being with Mrs. J.J. Johnson of Tanglewood. Mrs. Howe leaves four daughters and a son to mourn her loss, Mrs. W.H. Weldon of Grass Valley, Mrs. Christian Fox of Fresno, Mrs. A.J. Hinds of Santa Cruz and James H. Howe of Vallejo; Mrs. J.J. Johnson of Tanglewood, 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grand children, and a sister and a brother.

Mrs. Howe was a devoted Christian for many years, in her younger days an active member of the First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz. She was buried at Evergreen cemetery, beside her husband, who died eight years ago.
