Longtime Sandy resident Janet "Jan" Beth Johnson died Friday, Sept. 23, at her home. She was 78.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Sandy Funeral Home, 39551 Pleasant St. Private inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
Jan was born July 21, 1933, in Portland to Lyle and Wilda (Mattox) Seely. Jan was raised in Portland and graduated from Franklin High School. After finishing her schooling, Jan got married and became a homemaker, residing in various areas of Oregon and California. She was later divorced.
On Jan. 9, 1971, she married Leo Johnson. They made their home in Sandy, where Jan was active in the Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She loved her dog, Maggie, gardening and growing orchids.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Vickie Whedon of Portland, Debbie Rockwell of Sandy and Diana Lewis of Jewett City, Conn.; sister, Carol Woody of Gresham; brother, Bill Carpenter of Seaside; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sandy VFW, 38452 Proctor Blvd., Sandy, 97055; or Mt. Hood Hospice, P.O. Box 1269, Sandy, 97055.
Sandy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
