Verlie Seely Kirk

Verlie Seely Kirk "Will Be Missed" Our well-loved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and mother completed her sojourn on earth, called home by her Father in Heaven Thursday evening, 31 August 2006 at one hundred one and a half years of age! Enduring until the end, she cheered us all and her many loving constant visitors with her sense of humor, many songs sung aloud and eager welcome.

Born in a humble, hand-built adobe home in Mt. Pleasant, Utah the daughter of Ane Margarethe Jensen and Justus Lehi Seely; niece of Ellen Carter, survivor of the Martin Handcart Party who walked across the plains. Her heritage was a delight for her to research and increase. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. A stalwart in her family of 10, she supported her younger sister through nursing school, and her mother always. A graduate of Wasatch Academy, she earned A's in religion. As a family, we visited Mt. Pleasant often. She met George Fisher Kirk in the small mining town of Wattis, Utah, patiently waiting as he put his brothers and sisters through school to marry him nine years later.

She worked briefly in Wright's Department Store in Ogden. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding positions on the Sunday School board in Ogden and additional callings of trust and friendship that she honored. She was a friend to her neighbors, her husband's family, a great listener, comforter, and giver of encouragement. She is as celebrated as profoundly missed.

Survived by their daughter, Mary Ann; her brothers-in-law, Donald and Glen Kirk; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12 noon at the Bonneville Stake Center, 1535 East Bonneview Drive, Thursday, 7 September 2006 with a viewing prior from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Russon Brothers. Online guestbook and condolences at www.russonmortuary.com
