Mrs. E. McWhorter, 79, Succumbs at Algona

ALGONA – Mrs. Ellis McWhorter, 79, died at her home at midnight on Sunday night, following a long illness.

Mrs. McWhorter is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice White, Iowa Falls, and Miss Vern McWhorter, Omaha, Nebr.: and two sons, Lewis McWhorter, Loveland, Colo., and Ray McWhorter, Algona.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

HOLD RITES FOR MRS. M’WHORTER

ALGONA – Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Seely McWhorter, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Congregational church with the Rev. David R. Martin, pastor, in charge. Burial was in Portland cemetery. Mrs. McWhorter died at her home Sunday night after a long illness.

She was born December 28, 1853, daughter of A.L. and Alice Seely, in a log cabin in Plum Creek township. She was married to Ellis McWhorter on June 23, 1886. Mr. McWhorter died February 11, 1939.

Mrs. McWhorter was a charter member of the Plum Creek literary society. She was a member of the Congregational church and a member of the W.C.T.U., conducting temperance classes and contests in former years.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alice White, Iowa Falls, and Miss Vera McWhorter, Omaha, Nebr.: and two sons, Lewis, Loveland, Colo and Ray of Algona.
