Valerie Raye Merry
Valerie Raye Merry died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Valerie was born March 26, 1955 in Sioux Falls to Marvin and Verna (Eastman) Seely, the fourth of five children.
Valerie graduated from Washington High School in 1973 and South Dakota State University in 1974. After graduation, she worked for many years at John Morrell and Co. At the time of her death she was employed at The Bancorp Bank.
She married Wade Merry in Sioux Falls on May 28, 1988.
Valerie is survived by her husband, children Benjamin and Alexandra, both of Sioux Falls; her mother, brother Tim of Smithfield, VA, sister Roberta (Barry) Jacobson of Sioux Falls; sister Tanya (Brad) Carlson of Tea; brother-in-law Tony (Margaret) Merry of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law Jane Merry of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law John (Kelli) Merry of Sioux Falls; 11 nephews and nieces; seven great-nephews; three great-nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, brother Kevin, sister-in-law Ilene and brother-in-law Darwin Kapanke.
Visitation will begin at 12 pm with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at First Congregational Church with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Valerie and the family request that those attending please wear brightly colored clothing.
In lieu of flowers, Valerie's family requests that memorials be directed in her name to the Avera McKennan Foundation Cancer Research Fund.
