Ruth Mae Seely Webb

Ruth Mae Seely Webb, 90, of Deland, Fla., passed into eternal rest Thursday.

She was the daughter of the late W. Leslie Seely and Anne Bronson Scoville Seely.

Born in Briggsville, Ruth attended nurse’s training and then served as a nurse in Americus, Ga., and as an operating room nurse and/or nurse educator in several cities in the South.

In 1971, she and her husband, William Webb, became house parents at the Thornwell Orphanage for Girls in Clinton, S.C., and in 1973 they moved to Deland, Fla., where they purchased and ran “The Bread Basket,” a Christian book store. They were known in the community as compassionate and loving people to whom anyone could talk. They prayed for, counseled and encouraged many people who patronized the store until Ruth’s Alzheimer’s mandated they sell The Bread Basket in 2005. They were active, faithful and supportive members of First Assembly of God in Deland, Fla.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by William, her husband of 64 years, in 2010, and a daughter, Linda Mae Webb, in 1951. Other deceased family members include a brother, Harold Seely; a sister, Jane Seely Pohl; and a brother, Charles Seely.

Ruth is survived by a sister, Alice and her husband, Jerry Boock, Drums; a sister, Lois Seely Margavich, Waco, Texas; a brother, Walter, Baltimore, Md.; and a brother, Wayne and his wife, June, Hazleton. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be at Black Creek United Methodist Church, Sugarloaf, at the convenience of the family. Ruth’s pastor, the Rev. Mike Carroll, will be assisting the family with the service. Interment will be in Mount Laurel Cemetery.
