Ferne E. Williams, 100, Countryside Lane

Ferne E. Williams, 100, of Countryside Lane died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and had been a telephone operator for Indiana Bell, retiring after 43 years of service.

A member of Faith Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers of America, she enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her family and was always worried about the well-being of others.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. A committal service will be at noon Saturday at Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.

Born in Rose Hill, Ill., Oct. 29, 1908, Mrs. Williams was the daughter of William R. and Laura Mae Freeman Seelye. She married Lester Monroe Williams Nov. 13, 1928. He preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1977.

Survivors include a son, Marvin G. Williams of Columbus; grandsons, Jeff (Lisa) Williams and Mark (Becki) Williams, both of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jared, Josh, Joel, Jayla, Caitlyn, Courtney and Carson Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Ada Boring and Bessie Rose Morey; brothers, Verle and Jesse Seelye; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Williams; a niece, N. Eileen Morey; and a nephew, Dale Morey.
