Violet Ruth Seely Winegardner

Nurse, 92 Violet Ruth Seely Winegardner, 92, of Seaside, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Seaside.

Mrs. Winegardner was born March 29, 1910, in Mollala, to Roy L. and Grace M. Aker Seely.

In April 1935, she married Amos Winegardner in Vancouver, Wash. He died in 1975.

Mrs. Winegardner graduated from high school in Wasco. She attended nursing school at St. Vincent's Hospital and earned her registered nurse license. During the 1930s, she lived in Alaska. In the 1940s, she returned to Oregon and lived in Portland. In 1946, she moved to Seaside where her husband built a Quonset hut for their home. She worked as a nurse at the old Seaside Hospital and continued after the facility moved to its present location. She also worked at a Seaside nursing home.

She enjoyed making drapes, reupholstering furniture, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, entertaining, traveling and being with her friends and family. Family members say she made baby clothes, beautiful flower arrangements and will be remembered for family sing-a-longs. She traveled with her friend Alice Herrmann to Europe, Hawaii, Canada and throughout the United States. She became a life member of the Ramona Rebecca Lodge in 1975 and was an active member always.

She is survived by two nieces, Delene Seely Kempton of Portland and Linda Ballinger Stearns of Prineville; a nephew, Larry Ballinger of Sherwood; and an extended family, Rosie, Mike, Diana, Mary, Michael, Kathy and Tony Egbert, all of Seaside.

Memorial is 4 p.m. Sunday at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside.
