COLCHESTER - Gertrude L. (Lavoie) Cilley, 90, passed away in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009. She was born in Island Pond, Vt., on May 15, 1918, daughter of the late Louis and Marie (Crete) Lavoie. She married Robert J. Cilley Jr. in Island Pond in 1940. She was a loving wife and mother, avid homemaker, with hands that would knit, crochet and quilt with love and pride in every stitch. She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception prayer group, Franklin County Quilter's Guild and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 1 of St. Albans. Gertrude is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Jr. Cilley Jr. of Colchester; her son Thomas Cilley and wife Sandra of Essex Junction; her daughter Suzan Pons and husband Rene of France; two sisters, Gilberte Manning of Arlington, Angele Schlipmann and husband Aaron of New York; four grandchildren, Matthew Cilley and wife Haley of South Carolina, Rene Pons and wife Laetitia of France, Karen Martella and husband Drew of New York, Julien Pons of France; three great-grandchildren, Braeden Martella of New York, Lucien Pons of France, and Baby Cilley coming any day to South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son Robert J. Cilley III in 1977; her sister Armande; her five brothers, Hervey, Raymond, Herm, Marcel and Paul Lavoie. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Essex Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 2 p.m., in Holy Family Catholic Church, Essex Junction with the Reverend Charles Ranges S.S.E. officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family in the family lot in Lakeside Cemetery, Island Pond, VT.
