NOTTINGHAM – Walter A. Cilley, 91, former town official here, died after a long illness today at Cedar Haven Rest Home, Newmarket, where he had resided for the past year.

Mr. Cilley had served as town treasurer for 19 years, school treasurer for 17 years, selectman for six years and road agent at various times.

A native and lifelong resident here, Mr. Cilley was born March 4, 1864, the son of David and Sylvina (Tuttle) Cilley, and had been self-employed until his retirement.

Mr. Cilley first produced homemade shoes and then learned the blacksmith trade whereupon he opened his own shop and made wagons and sleds of his own design.

He was a member of Pattuccoway Grange of which he served as chaplain for 14 years and held other offices.

Last April 2 he and his wife celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Besides his wife, Mrs. Flora B. (Tuttle) Cilley, survivors include four nephews and a niece.
