Glenn A. Seeley Rites Saturday

MULLENS, Sept. 14 – Glenn A. Seeley, of the Armature Apartments, Moran Avenue, who only Tuesday last week announced his retirement as shift foreman at the Mullens Shops of the Virginian Railway, died unexpectedly at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday in a South Charleston hospital.

He had observed his 60th birthday Sunday.

An employee of almost 26 years’ service with the Virginian, having hired as a machinist at the Princeton Shops on October 24, 1924, he had suffered from a heart ailment for the past several months.

His death occurred in the Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Carleston, where he was admitted early Tuesday after suffering an attack while visiting at the home of relatives.

He had stopped overnight in Charleston en route back from Russell, Ky., where he had gone on Saturday to join his wife.

Mrs. Seeley had spent the past week at the home of her mother who was injured in an automobile accident recently. They had planned to return here Tuesday.

A native of Pennsylvania, where he was born September 10, 1890, Mr. Seeley began his railway service with the New York Central Railway. He was a veteran of World War I.

As an active member of the Wyoming County American Legion Post No. 106, Mullens, he had served in the capacity of post adjutant and commander. He had been a member of the Wyoming County Selective Service Board since 1948.

During his time with the Virginia he was advanced from a machinist’s rating to engine inspector, later to shift leadman, and on August 16, 1945, to second shift foreman.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Sgt. Robert Seeley, stationed with the U.S. Army at Washington, D.C., two daughters, Sarah Seeley, of Beckley, and Mrs. A.B. White,West Mullens; a brother, Wirt Seeley, New York City; and two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Tite, of Spencerport, N.Y., Mrs. G.R. Jones, of Pittsford, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of the Robertson and Fogleson Funeral Home, Mullens, at 1 p.m., Saturday with the Rev. O.H. Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Cemetery at Hinton.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
