LEE - J. Derek Seeley, 89, died peacefully at his home on Wadleigh Falls, Lee, on Monday, March 17, 2014. Derek was born on June 6, 1924 in Wimbledon, England to Jack and Winnie Seeley.

After serving in the Fleet Air Arm branch of the Royal Navy, Derek immigrated to the United States in 1948 and settled in Lee with his sponsors the Claridges. Through his activities in the Lee Church, he met his future wife Joan C. Murphy. Joan and Derek were married for 58 years before Joan's passing in 2007.

Derek worked in various management and safety related positions throughout his lengthy career. He was a kind, caring, and remarkable man who led a principled life and devoted much of his time to serving others. His greatest joy in life was time well spent with his family.

Derek is survived by loving family members; sister Doreen Jenkins and brother Antony Seeley and their families of England, daughter and son-in-law Doreen and Rick MacDonald of Concord, son and daughter-in-law John and Kathy Seeley of Lee, son and former daughter-in-law Scott and Kathy Seeley of Concord, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Stacey Seeley of Lee, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the Keniston family of Lee, "adopted sons" David Ward and Joseph Perrin of Barre, Mass. and caring friends Mauret and Harry Brinser and family, his "betrothed" Jane McGregor of California, Paul Bamford of Stratham, and the Parsons and Jenkins families of England. As well, he leaves his Fleet Air Arm comrades Bob, Terry, and Dickie.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of the Rockingham VNA and Hospice and to Pastor Gail and Derek's church community for their love, kindness, and support during the past several months.

At Derek's request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Derek's life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Lee Church Congregational with interment to follow at the Lee Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RVNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, N.H., 03833 and to the Lee Church Congregational, 17 Mast Road, Lee, N.H. 03861.

Arrangements are being handled by Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home in Newmarket.
