Joan Clair Seeley, known as Jody, passed away peacefully February 7, 2012 at home with her family at her side. She was born November 16, 1930 in Seattle. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1948 and attended Whitman College and the University of Washington. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority at the U of W and remained an active alumna throughout her life.

On memory she treasured from her high school years was driving King Neptune in the first Sea fair Parade.

She married Stuart Seeley in 1953 and moved with him to Germany where he was stationed for three years.

Jody was active in the Kent Community. She was a 40-year member of the Kent Orthopedic Guild and volunteered at Children’s Hospital Thrift Shop. She loved children and was a teacher’s aide at Park Orchard and Soos Creek Elementary Schools.

As a 44-year member of St. James Episcopal Church, Jody served as Alter Guild Directress, Wedding Coordinator and she sang in the choir. She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Yuma, Arizona where she and Stu spent their winters. Her creative instincts showed in her love of stamping and card making and she enjoyed teaching these skills to others.

She recently became a member of PEO, a philanthropic organization supporting education for women. Bouquets of white Marguerite daisies, the PEO flower, will decorate the church at Jody’s memorial service.

Jody caught the travel bug and took a number of cruises including trips through the Panama Canal and Caribbean as well as excursions to Mexico and Hawaii. Her favorite cruise was from Budapest to Amsterdam on river waterways.

Along with her husband Stuart, Jody is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Scott and Regina Seeley and her daughter and son-in-law Penny and Dallas Shannon. Grandchildren include Patrick Seeley, wife Andrea Seeley and their daughter Charlotte Seeley. (Patrick and family are currently living in Sweden) Other grandchildren include Lindsay Seeley, Natalie Shannon and Morgan Shannon and a cousin, Stephen Heath.

A memorial service to celebrate Jody’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at St. James Episcopal Church 24447 94th Ave. So. Kent, WA. 98030 Memorials may be made to the St. James Discretionary Fund.
