SEELEY, Joseph E., Jr. Of Plymouth, on March 19, 2013, formerly of Wakefield. Beloved husband of the late Rosemary J. (Lewis) Seeley. Father of Rosemary Seeley Akin and father in law Deacon David Akin of Yarmouth Port; Grandfather of Robert Akin and his wife Kathleen of Weymouth, Danielle Akin Sintoni and her husband Shaun of Newton, NC, and James Seeley of Methuen. Great grandfather of Shannon and Thomas Akin of Weymouth, Joseph, Shaun, Presleigh and Marcus Sintoni of Newton, NC. Brother in law of Barbara Lewis of Weymouth. Also survived by nieces Mary Lou Burlingame of Quincy, Gail Evangelista of Wakefield, many cousins, as well as friends at Pinehills. In addition to his late wife he was predeceased by his son Joseph Earl Seeley, III and his sister Janet Seeley Poor. Joseph Earl Seeley, Jr. 89, died on March 19, 2013 at Life Care Center in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of the late Rosemary J. (Lewis) Seeley.

Born in Everett, he was a 1941 graduate of Malden High School and earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University in 1961. He served with the United States Navy from 1942 – 1946 on the USS Altair, USS Devosa and the USS Paricutin, earning the WW II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic – Pacific Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Joseph was a long time resident of Wakefield and employed for his entire career with the Monsanto Chemical Company from 1941 until his retirement in 1981. He advanced from boilermaker’s helper to head of maintenance for the plant.

A devout Catholic, he was very active with St. Florence Church while residing in Wakefield. He was a Quartermaster Sea Scout and enjoyed golfing, woodworking, fishing and model ship building. He also enjoyed 39 cruises with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter and son in law, Rosemary Seeley Akin and Deacon David Akin of Yarmouth Port; three grandchildren Robert Akin and his wife Kathleen of Weymouth, Danielle Akin Sintoni and her husband Shaun of Newton, NC, and James Seeley of Methuen. He also leaves a sister in law, Barbara Lewis of Weymouth, great grandchildren Shannon and Thomas Akin of Weymouth, Joseph, Shaun, Presleigh and Marcus Sintoni of Newton, NC., nieces Mary Lou Burlingame of Quincy, Gail Evangelista of Wakefield, many cousins, as well as friends at Pinehills. In addition to his late wife he was predeceased by his son Joseph Earl Seeley, III and his sister Janet Seeley Poor.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 22, from 4 – 7 pm at the Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Dr., South Yarmouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday March 23 at 11:30 am at Saint Pius X Church, South Yarmouth. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery Everett, MA.
