Large Congregation At Funeral of Leo F. Seeley

The funeral of Leo F. Seeley, 198 Summer street, who was instantly killed at the Fitchburg Gas & Electric Light Co. power plant Friday night, was held today with a high mass of requiem at St. Bernard’s church at 9 o’clock.

World war veterans, officials and associates of the gas and electric company and friends joined in paying a final tribute to the war veteran whose sudden and tragic death aroused a city-wide wave of sympathy.

Rev. Francis J. Carroll celebrated the high mass of requiem which was attended by an unusually large congregation including Manager Albert H. Neal, manager, and all the executives, officials, and many of the employes of the Fitchburg Gas & Electric Light Co.; members of Fitchburg post, A.L.; and Lieut. Laurence S. Ayer post, V. of F.W.

The bearers, all from the gas and electric company, were: Arthur J. Bicknell, Merton W. Demont, Edward B. Ryan, Harlen E. Hooper, Samuel F. Mancuso and George W. Lehman.

Burial was in St. Bernard’s cemetery where Rev. John J. Foley officiated.

The floral tributes were also beautiful and numerous and evidence the silent sympathy of a host of friends.

The V. of F.W. firing squad was under command of Commander Harold F. Phelps.

The squad included Daniel A. Noonan, William E. O’Day, Ernest Dumois, Joseph Raymond, Frank L. Hill, Joseph E. Cormier, Walter Sclinga and Ralph Marien. Taps were sounded by Frank Sclinga and Wilfred Jolly.
