Seeley, Richard S.

Died peacefully on September 18, 2014, 17 days after his 89th birthday. Dick is survived by his 3 children, Susan Abel of Yucaipa, CA, Jill Crafts of Cohasset MA and Craig Seeley of Brentwood NH, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He grew up in Newtonville, MA where he met many life-long friends including his wife of 64 years, Hope Seeley, whom he met in grade school. Dick worked for United Carr, later bought by TRW, for 36 years. He was transferred to the Detroit area in 1952 as a Sales Engineer and spent 12 years there servicing major OEM accounts including Ford Motor Company. In 1964 he was promoted to District Manager for the Chicago Division and two years later moved to Boston, MA as General Sales Manager and later as Marketing Manager. He was most proud of his memberships in the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Masonic Lodge of Cotuit. Hope and Dick lived in Cohasset, MA for 26 years and then after retirement in Cotuit, MA for 17 years until 2009, when Hope passed away. He then moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA where he resided until his death. Dick was an avid tennis and golf player and enjoyed bridge, but most of all loved music. He had a rich tenor voice and was a paid soloist as early as 5 years old. He played the clarinet and saxophone beautifully and in the '40's and early '50's had a 10- member band – Dick Seeley and his Orchestra – that played big band era music at high schools and colleges. Hope and Dick were regular attendees at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A memorial service will be held at Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA at the Oak Leaf Fireside Lounge on Monday, September 22, at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurses Association (NVNA), 120 Longwater Dr., Norwell, MA 02061.
