Col. Sam Taylor Seeley, born July 16, 1933, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 81. He was born in Manila, Philippine Islands, the son of Brig. Gen. Sam Foster Seeley and Margaret Sweet Seeley. He attended Texas Military Institute, earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a Master of Hospital Administration from Baylor University. Col. Seeley served in the US Army Medical Service Corp for thirty years and retired in May of 1986 as the chief-of-staff of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, having also served tours in Korea and Vietnam. On July 28, 1956 he married his "greatest love", Muriel Eastlack Seeley, who preceded him in death on January 2nd of this year. After moving 22 times in his 30-year career, Col. Seeley retired from active duty and moved to South Boston, Virginia. During their retirement they spent winters in Florida, went on cruises across the world, and spent summers at Topsail Island, North Carolina with friends and family. His grandchildren consider their times at Topsail Island, where Sam would often be seen sporting his famous Speedo, among the most special times with their grandfather. Col. Seeley is survived by daughters Margaret Seeley Ruffino (Steve) and Kathleen Seeley Stephens (Charles); grandchildren Marilyn Burkholder, Sarah Burkholder, Maggie Stephens Gambrel (Bobby), Scott Stephens (Elizabeth), and Samantha Seeley Stephens; and three great-grandchildren Seeley Lucille Stephens, Gus Owen Stephens and Caroline McGowan Gambrel. Services will be held Monday, June 8th at 3:00 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1416 North Loop 1604 East. In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to your favorite charity
