WADE D. SEELEY, FORMERLY CITY ENGINEER, DIES

Death Follows Operation For Appendicitis; Plan Rites Tomorrow

Wade D. Seeley, 102 East Cook street, a civil engineer for the city from 1907 to 1930, died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday at St. John’s hospital at the age of 55 years. Death was due to pneumonia following an emergency operation for relief from appendicitis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the residence with Rev. H.M. Hildebrandt officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. The remains will be removed to the residence at 2 p.m. today.

Mr. Seeley was born at Commerce, Mich., in 1880, and was educated in the public schools of Michigan and Illinois. He was first employed by the city under Mayor David Griffiths in 1907. In 1911, the first year of the commission form of government, he was appointed city engineer by Frank H. Hamilton, then commission of streets and public works. In this position, Mr. Seeley engineered the paying of many of the city’s street and constructions of subways and other public works.

After resigning from his position with the city in 1930, Mr. Seeley worked for himself as a civil engineer. He surveyed the site for the new archives building now under construction on the southwest corner of the state capitol grounds. He was active until the attack of appendicitis a few days ago.

He held membership in Central lodge No. 71, A.F.& A.M. and the Society of Engineers.

Survivors are his wife, Mabel C. and one brother, Attorney Roy M. Seeley, both of this city.

Funeral Services For Wade Seeley To Be Held Today

Funeral services for Wade D. Seeley, 102 East Cook street, city engineer for many years, will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the residence, with Rev. H.M. Hildebrandt officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Loveridge, H.M. Bryan, S.A. Dickson, Griffith George and George Ruch, all of this city, and Will Garrett of Minier, George Thoma, H.M. Diggs and Irving Gardner of Springfield,and Arthur Donovan of Mason City will be honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Seeley died Tuesday morning at St. John’s hospital of pneumonia, following an operation for relief from appendicitis.
