William L. Seeley


Mr. William L. Seeley, 84, well known resident of Leesburg, died Sunday following an illness of several weeks.

Born in Kearney, Neb., he had lived in Leesburg for the past 40 years, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite bodies of Masonry. He was a graduate of the University of Florida Engineering College, was a professor at the University of Florida Engineering College for several years, and was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Mr. Seeley served as a Captain in the 42nd Rainbow Division in World War I and was with the Army of Occupation in Germany following the war. In World War II he was with the Civil Aeronautics Board and built 12 major military airports, 16 minor Airports and over 40 radio facilities in Alaska, among them the Airfield at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He also engineered and built Airports, hospitals and schools in St. Croix and St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. Survivors are: his widow, Mrs. Winnie H. Seeley of Leesburg; one daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Merritt of Mascottee and two grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at graveside in Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Willis of Main Street Baptist Church, officiating.
