Publication

Publication Passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2004, surrounded by her beloved companion, Joan Laektis, and her loving sister, Beth, after a valiant struggle with Sarcoma, a rare andaggressive form of cancer. Anne was born in Riverside, CA on 12/1/55 to Frank and Murlene Seeley, where she grew up. Her active membership in the Girl Scouts kindled an awareness for environmental conservation, a passion that remained with her throughout her life. After her graduation from UCDavis, Anne settled in Sacramento, and became a community activist, involved in the Crystal Moon Productions (which she founded), the AIDS Foundation, WalkSacramento, and KXPR public radio. Anne was the first-ever Director of Coordinator for the CA Department of Health Services and US San Francisco. Walk n’Roll Wednesdays in Capitol Park is an event in honor of Anne and her dedication and vision to make communities safer, more walkable and healthier places for Californians of all ages. Anne was an Environmental Fellow with the German Marshall Fund and traveled extensively in Europe, meeting with professionals in her field. Anne and Joan also enjoyed many please trips. God blessed Anne with an angelic voice, enchanting all who were fortunate enough to hear her sing, and was a member of the Sacramento Symphony Chorus for 10 years. She was also an avid gardener, and landscaping her backyard kept her busy until the last days of her life. Anne will be greatly missed by all who know and love her. She will be forever cherished by Joan,; her parents; and her sisters, Beth Downs and Robin Seeley; their spouses, Andrew Downs and Greg Jouriles; her nephew, Phil Jouriles; and members of her extended family, the Brewsters, of the Sierra Foothills Unitarian Universalist Congregation (SFUUC). A memorial service for Anne will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the SFUUC Church, 190 Finley St., Auburn, CA. Remembrances may be made to SFUU Chalice Fund, WalkSacramento, or a land conservation group of your choice.
