Berlen Seeley, managed Adams nursery

POUGHQUAG – Berlen Seeley, 81, a 20 year resident of Beekman, died Wednesday at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Seeley was manager of the nursery division of Adams Fairacre Farms in Poughkeepsie for 25 years, retiring in 1982.

Formerly of Union Vale, he was a life member of the Union Vale Fire Department and a founding member of the Union Vale Rescue Squad.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 38th Evacuation Hospital in the European and African theatres.

He was educated in Millbrook schools and was a member of the Lyall Memorial Federated Church in Millbrook.

Born June 18, 1915, in Dover Plains, he was a son of Henry and Ella Dennis Seeley.

On Jan. 8, 1948, in St. Joseph’s Church in Millbrook, he married Mary Story. She survives at home.

Mr. Seeley is also survived by a daughter, Rita Hein of Poughquag: three sons, Harold Seeley of Beekman, Ernie Seeley of Lake Mary, Fla. and James Seeley of Poughkeepsie; three grandsons; a granddaughter, and a great-grand-daughter.

A son, William Seeley, died March 17, 1994, and a brother, Ernest Seeley, died in 1968.

Visitation will begin at the family’s residence at 242 Alary Road, Beekman.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes Inc.; Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Burial will be in Verbank Cemetery.
