Carl W. Seeley of Ayer, Fort Devens retiree, Army Vet; 81

AYER -- Carl W. Seeley, 81, of Ayer, formerly of Fletcher and Pearl Streets, died Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Ayer, after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of D. Ruth (Bernabi) Seeley who died in 1986.

Mr. Seeley was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, December 2, 1929, a son of the late Henry F. and Hattie (Jones) Seeley, and has resided in Ayer for over 40 years.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Farley of Centerville, VA, Maureen and Fenton Moore of Keene, NH; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kelly Seeley of Townsend, Scott and Carol Seeley of Rockwall, Texas, Paul and Nicole Seeley of Ayer, Wayne and Stephanie Seeley of Ft. Campbell, KY.

He also leaves 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late David White of Iowa, June Henry of Mesa, AZ, and Katherine Hendrickson of Alexandria, MN.

For 20 years, Mr. Seeley served his country in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era in the United States Army. He retired in 1968 at the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Following his retirement from the armed forces, Mr. Seeley worked for 17 years at Fort Devens as the Director of Engineering and Family Housing, retiring in 1990.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ayer, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post in Ayer, and the Disabled American Veterans.

SEELEY -- A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, 31 Shirley Street, Ayer. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
