SEELEY, CHARLENA WRIGHT LaLUZ, 59, of Christiansburg, went to explore the next stage of her life with God on Tuesday, August 21, 2001. She was born on November 29, 1941, in Pulaski. After graduating from Pulaski High School in 1960, she attended and graduated from Radford College (now Radford University) in 1963, with a B.S. in Education, majoring in English, Speech, and Drama. Her first teaching assignment was Loudon County High School in Leesburg, where she was active in theatre and founded the Waterford Junior Players. In 1967, she became a Recreation Specialist with the U.S. Army and served one year in South Korea. Another year was spent teaching in South Carolina. In 1973, she came to Christiansburg High School where she remained until February 1999 when she retired. At CHS, she taught English, Drama and Film Studies. Through the years, she directed many plays and touched the lives of countless students. She was a member of Playmakers and Company and worked with the Summer Musical Enterprise, acting in The Music Man, and directing Oklahoma. She was State Thespian Director for eight years, as well as Sponsor of Troupe 3070. She was a member of the William Christian Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Main Street Baptist was her church home. Charlena leaves her beloved husband, Larry, the angel God sent to watch over her in her illness; and her loving son, Juan Carlos (Jay) LaLuz. She also leaves her wonderful sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Toby Funk, Salem, Dorothy and Doug Quance, Colfax, N.Y., and Jean and Alan Rudisill, Pulaski; a sister-in-law, Blanche McCallister, Rural Retreat; her nieces and nephews, Larry Black, Jonathan Quance and wife, Emily, Amy Quance, Ben Rudisill, Susan Cofer and husband, Brad; she also leaves special friends, Anne Johnson, Mary Shanholtz, and Boots Kinzie. Memorial services will be Saturday, August 25, 2001, at 7 p.m. in Main Street Baptist Church conducted by Dr. A. Timothy Hight. Send no flowers; please make donations to the American Cancer Society, the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, or Main Street Baptist Church. "She was beloved by all who knew her." Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service.
