A former Houghton Lake resident, Charles Leo Seeley, 80, died Aug. 24 in Gratiot Community Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Seeley and his wife, Mildred, who survives, moved to St. Louis, Mich., three weeks ago from Houghton Lake.

Mr. Seeley was a resident of Gratiot County most of his life, living 57 years in the Middleton area. He was born in Ashley, Mich., Oct. 16, 1897, son of Alanson and Martha Seeley.

Mr. Seeley was a director of the Federal Land Bank for 29 years, and the supervisor of Fulton Township 10 years. He was a Life Member of Masonic Lodge 429 in Middleton, and while a resident of Houghton Lake a member of the Houghton Lake Lions Club.

Other than his wife, he is survived by one son, Philip of Holt, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, two sisters and a brother. One brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Seeley was a farmer.

Funeral services were held at the Dewey Funeral Home, Ithaca, with the Dr. Donald Scranton officiating, of the United Methodist Church, Alma. Burial was in the North Star Cemetery, North Star, Mich.
