Clark Seeley Thirteen Lost Life Drowning

Efforts Resuscitation After Body Taken From Driskel Lake, Jones, Futile

Clark Seeley, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Seeley of Fabius township lost his life by drowning in waters of Driskel Lake just north of Jones Friday afternoon.

All efforts at resuscitation by the Three Rivers Emergency squad and Michigan Gas and Electric life saving squad and an attendant physician, were futile although the efforts were continued for an hour and a half.

The youth had been visiting with his grandmother, Mrs. Houpt, on the shores of the lake. He had gone down to wade along the shore next to M-119 highway and was suddenly missed. The body was found in about twelve feet of water of the quick drop-off beach by a youth named Schmidtendorf who first located it. He lost it and later with Carl Steck found it and the two retrieved it and came ashore. It was estimated to have been in the water between 10 and 20 minutes. The accident occurred about 2:45 o’clock.

Emergency squads, using all of their knowledge and excellent equipment, were unable to restore life.

His mother was notified at the farm and rushed to the scene. Neighbors at Jones called her.
