Clifford William James Seeley, 76

Clifford William James Seeley, 1563 County Rd. 2 in Augusta Township, died Aug. 26, 2000 at his home. He was 76.

He was born June 10, 1924 in Matilda Township to Alzon Seeley and Gertrude Stone, who predeceased him.

Mr. Seeley is survived by his wife, Irene Ilda Marion Seeley (nee McHaffie), whom he married Sept. 3, 1947 in Iroquois.

Mr. Seeley was a past Grand Master of the Ontario Independent Order of Oddfellows '80-82. He and his wife had travelled extensively throughout Ontario and the United States in this capacity. Mr. Seeley was a member of the Canadian Memorial Committee of the Sovereign Grand Lodge, and he also initiated the Oddfellows Pilgrimage for Youth for this district in 1964.

He was an active member of St. Paul's United Church, Prescott, and served on numerous committees in earlier years. During the 1960s, he served as a school trustee. He loved to play euchre and organized a number of games for the Prescott IOOF.

He was the owner and operator of Seeley Bus Lines until 1976.

Mr. Seeley is also survived by daughters Evelyn (Mrs. Terry Relyea) and Joyce Seeley and her husband George Martin; a son Brian and his wife Dorothy; grandchildren Diane Relyea and Gregory Martin; sisters Arlean Bradford, Fae Brinston and Leaola LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Companion, and brothers Rae and Wilfred Seeley.

Visitation was held at the Chris Slater Funeral Home on Aug. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel Aug. 30 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Doug Carnegie officiating. A committal service followed at Spruce Haven Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Goodin, Carl Gilmer, Terry Relyea, Charles Seeley, Glenn Seeley, and Garry Lewis. George Hastie was the honourary pallbearer.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and St. Vincent Palliative Care would be appreciated. –
