Publication Former Ferrum Official Dies

Clyde R. Seeley, a former vice president for business affairs at Ferrum College, died Tuesday. He was 70.

Seeley, of 3303 Oliver Road in Roanoke, served as a YMCA director for 17 years before becoming director at Lake Geneva Campus of George Williams College at William Bay, Wis. He served in that job for 11 years.

Seeley came to Ferrum College in March of 1966 and worked in the Business Affairs Department of the college until he went on disability retirement because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Seeley was active in community affairs in Ferrum and Franklin County. He was a board member of Franklin Memorial Hospital, St. James United Methodist Church, Ferrum Walter and Sewer Authority, Ferrum Lions Club and the Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department.

In Roanoke, Seeley was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alice Lindee Seeley; two daughters, Kathryn Ann Seeley and Karen S. Barr, both of Roanoke; two grandsons, Eric Shannon Barr and Christopher Shaun Barr; one sister, Mrs. D.C. Myhr of Deer Harbor, Wash.; and one brother, William H. Seeley of Mason City, Iowa.

The funeral will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Oakley’s Funeral Home Chapel in North Roanoke. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Oakley’s North Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made to the Clyde R. Seeley Scholarship Fund at Ferrum College or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
