SEELEY, Coyla Jeane (Dodge) Holt - 81, of Pt. Charlotte, FL, passed away, April 6, 2009 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami, as a result of Cancer. Born in Billings, MT , November 25, 1927 to Nora and Glen Dodge, sister Gwen (Dodge) Ross, and brother, Hollis Dodge, all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Holt of Ludington, MI in 1955. Coyla attended Northern High School, Class of 1945, Flint Junior College, graduating in1947 and University of Michigan, in 1949. At the age of 45, Coyla went back to Uof M-Flint and in 1976, graduated with an additional Bachelor Degree in Business Education. Coyla taught for Mott Adult High School Program, days, evenings and summers, under the direction of Dr. Fern Williams, from 1958 -1974. She taught Typing and Rapid Writing. As this was a new program, there was no set classroom. She taught Key Punch at various schools around Flint, as well as Business English to Certified Public Secretaries and Engineering Secretaries from AC. She also taught experimental classes, such as 3rd and 5th Grade Typing. There was no pay for experimental classes! She truly enjoyed teaching! Coyla was an avid traveler and had an affinity for the West and Southwest. There wasn't a Natl Park she didn't like. A voracious reader, she catalogued all books she read, as to not reread the same one, inviting new adventures and subject matter. She also loved nature and was a member of the Native Plant Society, Nature Conservancy and other organizations. She was a fabulous Mother, a good Friend, an inspiring Teacher and a role model for many. Anyone that knew her remarked on how understanding, brilliant and special she was! She is survived by her Daughter, Gail (Holt) Hanrahan, Son Kim A. Holt, and Daughter in Law, Marta Otero-Holt, all of Pompano Beach, FL and Leo F. Seeley of Iva, S. Carolina. Other surviving family members include Sharon (Ross) Nixon, Carol (Ross) League, Cal League, Linda League, Lynn and Peggy Ross, Sue (Dodge) Bell, Glen Dodge, Greg Dodge, Gary Seeley, Dean and Doris (Holt) Anderson, Gary and Amy Anderson, and Sandy and Mike McHale. Coyla had requested that her ashes be scattered in her native Montana. For those wishing to contribute, the family has set up 2 funds in her name - The Nature Conservancy and St. Josephs Indian School Scholarship Fund. For more information, please call 954-785-4522.
