Salt Laker Drowns In Fish Lake

Fish Lake, Utah (UP) – Everett J. Seeley, 55-year-old chief dispatcher for Western Air Lines in Salt Lake City, drowned Friday afternoon while trying to save his wife after she fell into the cold water of Fish Lake.

Mr. and Mrs. Seeley were fishing on the calm waters of the lake, witnesses said, when Mrs. Seeley accidentally fell in.

Seeley threw his wife a cushion that kept her afloat. While trying to pull her back into the boat, Seeley himself fell into the water.

The air lines dispatcher then reportedly tried to swim back to the boat but apparently suffered a cramp and drowned.

Mrs. Seeley managed to reach the boat in safety and went for help.

Sheriff Clarence Smith of Sevier county began organizing a party to search for Seeley’s body.

Seeley, a native of Salt Lake City, had been employed by Western Air Lines and its predecessor National Parks Airways since 1930. He had spent most of his service in Salt Lake City, except for one assignment several years ago in Butte, Mont.

His father, J.E. Seeley, still lives in Salt Lake City. One son, Ralph, is employed at Hill Air Force Base. Another, Jack Seeley, is with Pan-American Airways in San Francisco.
