Jordan Police Chief Fatally Injured in Plunge

Frank Seeley, 69, Dies After Fall on Village Hall Stairs

Frank Seeley, 69, Jordan police chief, was injured fatally early yesterday morning in a plunge down the cellar stairs of the Jordan village hall.

He died in Auburn City hospital about 1:39 p.m. Cause of death was listed as a head injury. Seeley was reported to have suffered fractured ribs, a broken wrist, compound fracture of the nose, and body bruises and lacerations.

It was believed the victim fell about 2:45 a.m. while descending the cellar steps to tend the boilers. He generally stayed on the job until about 4 a.m.

Seeley lay at the bottom of the stairway until about 8 a.m. when he was discovered by Joseph McMullin and David Howe, village employes.

A Jordan physician was notified and he ordered Seeley moved immediately to Auburn hospital. The B.L. Bush & Sons ambulance carried the victim to Auburn.

The last rites of the Catholic church were administered by an Auburn priest.

Seeley had been chief of police since before world war 2.

Surviving are three sons, Frank G. Seeley of Seneca Falls, James C. Seeley of Jordan and Chief Petty Officer V. Milo Seeley stationed at Yukon, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen Byrne and Mrs. Paul H. McMany, both of Seneca Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Stevens, and Mrs. Edith Crofut, both of Weedsport, and Mrs. Jennie Lovell of Syracuse, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will be in Spring Brook cemetery in Seneca Falls.

Rites Scheduled For Jordan Chief

Services for Frank Seeley, 69, Jordan police chief who was fatally injured Tuesday when he fell down the stairs of the Jordan village hall, will be conducted tomorrow.

At 8 a.m. rites will be held in the Byrne funeral home in Seneca Falls and at 9:30 a.m. a solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Kane in St. Patrick’s church in Seneca Falls. Burial will be in Spring Brook cemetery.

Mr. Seeley, died of a head injury suffered in the plunge. He is survived by three sons, Frank G. of Seneca Falls, James C. of Jordan, and Chief Petty Officer V. Milo Seeley at Yukon, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen Byrne and Mrs. Paul H. McMany of Seneca Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Stevens and Mrs. Edith Crofut of Weedsport, and Mrs. Jennie Lovell of Syracuse, and 11 grandchildren.
