PLYMOUTH - George W. Seeley, 87, of 912 Rock Street, Plymouth, died Thursday, (Oct. 4, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Tara Amundson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth. The family will receive friends for one hour before services at the church. According to Mr. Seeley's wishes, his body has been cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Plymouth, Hospice of North Iowa or the American Cancer Society.

George was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Plymouth, the son of Sheldon "Roy" and Adah (Kruse) Seeley. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1932 and then worked at the Strand Filling Station in Manly for several years. George was united in marriage to Martha Marken on April 3, 1937, in Salem, S.D. The couple resided in Plymouth while George worked with his father as a mechanic at the family garage. He bought the business from his father in 1961 and owned and operated the George Seeley Garage until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1996. In his retirement, George enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a former longtime Plymouth City Council member and the very first chief of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department, which he helped to start.

George will be greatly missed by his wife, Martha, of Plymouth; two sons, Dale Seeley of Garland, Texas, and Gerald Seeley of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Nellie Lunde of Mason City; two sisters-in-law, Lela Seeley of Huron, S.D. and Helen Marken of Mitchell, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wanda Martin, on June 25, 2001; a sister, Alice Tennehill; a brother, Donald Seeley; and six brothers-in-law.

George W. Seeley was born, February 19, 1914 at Plymouth, Iowa and passed away October 4, 2001 at a Mason City, Iowa hospital.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at the First United Church in Plymouth, Iowa. Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife Martha (Marken) Seeley and two sons, Dale and Gerald; Sister, Nellie Lunde; two sister-in-law, Lela Seeley of Huron and Helen Marken of Mitchell and one brother-in-law, Roman Bornhorst of Bridgewater. He was proceeded in death by a daughter Wanda in July of 2001.

Those attending the funeral from around were Marj Marken, Rapid City, Esther McCullough of Emery and Roger Marken of Bridgewater.
