Gerald W. Seeley, 73, of Alanson passed away Aug. 26, 2010 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Gerald was born Dec. 13, 1936 in Allen Park , MI to William B. and Eleanor ( Wilson ) Seeley. He attended school in Allen Park and Melvindale. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966 and was stationed in Germany . Following his discharge he returned to Michigan and owned and operated B and M Landscaping Co. in Taylor, MI for several years prior to moving to Harbor Springs.

On April 15, 1973 he married Penny Gillespie in Harbor Springs where the couple made their home. Gerald was employed by the Emmet Co. Road Commission from 1975 until he retired in 1999. On Dec. 20, 1985 while driving a large road commission truck down Division Rd. hill towards US 31 he noticed an out of control truck coming down the hill behind him. He entered the intersection and positioned his truck to stop all traffic. The other truck had brake failure and rolled through the stop and through the busy intersection. Gerald was given a citizens' commendation for heroism for his quick actions to prevent injury to the public. Gerald had also worked for Litzenburger Landscape Co. for several years and also operated his own kindling and campfire wood business.

Gerald enjoyed being outdoors and using his tractor. He spent much of his time visiting and working with his friends.

Gerald is survived by his wife Penny, his step-sons Michael Albert and his wife Lisa and their daughter Kristin of Harbor Springs and Gary Albert of Petoskey. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Kathy Adelaine;, a niece Melissa Adelaine-Supernault and her husband Jon; and a brother-in- law Thomas Gillespie of Kingman , Az.

Funeral services were held on Sat. Aug. 28.
