Hart I. Seeley Jr., 68, editor of two Waverly newspapers

Hart I. Seeley Jr., 68, of 450 Pennsylvania Ave., Waverly, died Friday at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayr, Pa., after a long illness.

He was born in Waverly and was the son of the late Hart I. and Marguerite Dolmetsch Seeley.

Mr. Seeley was a long-time editor and publisher of the Waverly Sun and the Valley News, and was very active in the area’s historical groups.

He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Waverly, and was a vestryman for many years.

Mr. Seeley was an honorary member of the Waverly Rotary Club, and a member of the Waverly Lodge No. 407, F&AM.

He was also a member of the Tioga County Historical Society in Owego; the New York State Historical Association, Cooperstown; the National Railway Historical Society, Railway and Locomotive Historical Society Inc.; the Empire State Passengers Association Inc.; and the Cayuta Hose Company No. 1, Waverly.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Sumner Seeley at home; a son, Hart I. Seeley III, a reporter with The Herald-Journal; a daughter, Virginia Marguerite Seeley at home; a sister, Mrs. Byron Blane of Flanders, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial services will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, Waverly, the Rev. Edward Conklin, rector of the Athens Trinity Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Spencer, at the convenience of the family.

The Luckner Funeral Home, Park Ave., Waverly, has charge of arrangements.
