Irene Margaret Hecht was born October 22, 1920 to Adolph and Lizzie (Claussen) Hecht in Hamill, SD. She had one brother Arthur. She attended grade school in rural Hamill and graduated from Winner High School. On October 22, 1943, Irene was united in marriage to Lloyd Seeley in Waco, TX where he was stationed in the Army. They moved to Louisville, KY where Irene remained while Lloyd was overseas in Japan. After Lloyd’s discharge, they moved to the Seeley family farm near Iona, SD. In 1965, Lloyd and Irene moved their family to Chamberlain. While living in Chamberlain, she worked for the Chamberlain Register, S.D. Department of Rehabilitation Services, Brule County Extension Office and the S.D. Department of Social Services. She retired from the State of South Dakota in 1985. Irene spent her retirement years active in several organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary, Mid Dakota Hospital Auxiliary, and Know Your Neighbor Extension Club. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain. Irene enjoyed needlework, especially cross stitching, and sewing. She could also be found campaigning for her favorite local candidates. But most of all she loved spoiling her grandchildren and enjoyed their visits and quick stops after school. She rarely missed any Cubs games, band, or chorus concerts that involved the grandchildren. Irene moved to the Regency Retirement Assisted Living in January of 2003 and because of her failing health entered Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center in Chamberlain in June of 2006. Irene passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center at Chamberlain at the age of 86 years. She is survived by three children: Robert Seeley and wife Elaine of St. Charles, IL, Thomas Seeley and wife Shelley of Dripping Springs, TX, and Elaine (Seeley) Reimer and husband Steve of Chamberlain. She also is survived by six grandchildren: Kim and Ryan Seeley, Jason and Colleen Jones, Jaimi (Reimer) and Brady Lammers, Amber and Brian Reimer; and two great grandchildren Patricia and James Lammers. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Lloyd on June 28, 2005; and her brother Arthur.
