Isabelle M. Seeley

BREWER - Isabelle M. Seeley died Aug. 18, 2010, surrounded by family and staff at a Brewer rehabilitation center. She was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Kintore, Scotch Colony, New Brunswick, the oldest child of John and Annie Sullivan Martin. She was an honor graduate of Woodstock High School and received a teaching certificate from Mount Allison University. She taught at a one-room school in Jacksonville. In October 1940, she married George Seeley and moved to the U.S. She graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a degree in elementary education and taught at Houlton Elementary for 10 years, where she made many lifelong friends. She was a member of Maine Retired Teachers, Houlton Methodist Church and Waterville Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing with all children and in particular her great-grandchildren, Ryley, Marit and Tiana Wheelock and Sebastien Smith. She had a strong faith and loved to keep in touch with friends and family with many letters. She also became a NASCAR fan when she discovered that one of the drivers was named Martin, her family name. She is survived by her daughter, Roanne of Eddington; granddaughters, Karen Lombardo Wheelock and her husband, Paul, of Eddington and Erin Rooker Smith and her husband, Shaun, of Warren; a sister, Hazel Fisher of Woodstock, New Brunswick; son-in-law, Guy Lombardo of Rockland; several nieces and nephews throughout Canada; as well as many friends and caregivers, including Doris Wescott of Appleton. The family is very grateful to the staff at Brewer Rehabilitation Center and Beacon Hospice for their wonderful care and love to her. She will be cremated. A time for remembrance will be held at the discretion of the family. Isabelle was a giving person who would ask that each of you who wish to remember her do so by giving yourself a gift, even an ice cream cone. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Brewer and Bangor. Condolences may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
