HOLTON – Dr. James C. Seeley, 67, Holton, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at home. Dr. Seeley operated a medical practice in Holton for many years and also had worked in the St. Mary’s Clinic, Allen County Hospital and the Holton Family Health Clinic before retiring. He served his internship at General Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He also had been a jazz musician on the East Coast before attending medical school. He served for two years in the Army.

He was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Horton, the son of James Charles and Caroline House Seeley. He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1952 and graduated from The University of Kansas Medical School in 1964.

Dr. Seeley was a longtime member of the Holton Country Club.

He married Anita Kuhn on Sept. 3, 1958. They divorced. He married Cheryl Karns on Dec. 17, 1997, in Falls City, Neb. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Caroline Willis, Joplin, Mo.; a son, James C. Seeley, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Annie Stanley, Odessa, Texas, and Jenny Burton, Lawrence; two stepdaughters, Jenny Karns, Faroux, Leguevin, France, and Jessica Karns White, Monterrey, Mexico; two sisters, Janet Nigus, Topeka, and Judy Hileman, DeSoto; and three grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A celebration is planned. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Holton Country Club. Relatives and friends may pay respects and sign a book at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holton High School Music Department and sent in care of the funeral home.
