James Seeley, 73, dies; retired funeral director

James G. Seeley, 73, of the Methodist Sunset Home died Tuesday (Feb. 1, 1972) at 6:55 p.m. at the home. Seeley had been a funeral director and embalmer for 42 years; 20 in Quincy, five years in Barry and operated the Seeley Funeral Home in Clayton for 16 years until his retirement.

Mr. Seeley was born in Oronogo, Mo., March 18, 1898, a son of Samuel Guy and Mattie Lee Monroe Seeley. He married Lela Louise Liggett Oct. 13, 1935. She died Aug. 21, 1971. He was a member of the Clayton Christian Church and past master of the Bodley Lodge AF&AM of Quincy, Clayton Lodge AF&AM, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine of Springfield, High Twelve Club of Quincy, Grace Whipple Chapter OES, Clayton Lions Club and past member of the Quincy Rotary.

Surviving are a brother, Roy of Fort Meyers, Fla., and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Burgesser of Kinderbook. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, Ross, Clyde and Floyd and a sister, Minnie.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Christian Church at Clayton with the Rev. Lee Anthony officiating. Burial will be in the Quincy Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Zehender-Robinson-Stormer Funeral Home.
