Seeley, Jeane McWorkman, age 92, died peacefully in her sleep, Friday, April 24, 2009, in Ann Arbor. Jeane was renown for her caring heart and gentle smile. Her passions in life were her family, her faith, ministering to the needy of the world, her flower garden, and… chocolate. She was born June 7, 1916 in Indianapolis, IN, to Delamar McWorkman and Harriet Orcutt McWorkman. Jeane graduated from the University of Michigan in 1937 with a BS in Chemistry, and later with a MS in Library Science. Speaking multiple languages, Jeane created a business called "The Technical Library Research Service" to support herself and her daughter after her first marriage ended. The business translated scientific documents for major corporations. Using her degrees in Chemistry and Library Science, she also had a career as a Research Librarian at the Parke-Davis Company in Ann Arbor. Following retirement from Parke-Davis, Jeane studied to become a Chaplain and then worked as a Chaplain at both the University of Michigan and St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals. Subsequently she worked as a volunteer Chaplain at the Glacier Hills Care and Rehab Center. Later in life, Jeane was married for 19 years to John C. Seeley. She always referred to those years as "the golden years". Not only did she acquire a remarkable husband, but also a wonderful new daughter, Martha. The First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor was a central part of her life. As a member for more than 60 years, Jeane served on the Session and as a Deacon. She was also a Sunday School teacher, and contributed in many other capacities. Jeane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John C. Seeley, and her brothers William and Gordon McWorkman. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Jeane Atkins (Rodney) and Martha Federico (Domenic). Her four grandchildren are Cynthia Berkley (Brian), Scott Atkins (Robyn), John Federico (Vicki), and Matthew Federico (Rose). Her five great-grandchildren are Taylor Jeane Berkley, Andrew Berkley, Cedar Atkins, Gianna Federico, and Enzo Federico. Jeane is also survived by nieces, nephews, a sister-in-law, cousins, and many many friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1432 Washtenaw Ave. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Gifts in memory of Jeane may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Mission Committee. Jeane blessed us all with her loving, gentle presence and will be greatly missed.
