_______________________________

John F. Seeley, 80 years old, oldest banker in the Thumb district and for many years a prominent citizen of Caro, died in that village suddenly Saturday night.

Coming to Caro 47 years ago, Mr. Seeley founded the Tuscola County Bank. With offices at that time very hard to get, he began the banking business in the window of a furniture store. Securing offices shortly afterwards, the Tuscola County Bank continued for 26 years when it was incorporated as the Commercial Savings Bank with Mr. Seeley as president. Mr. Seeley has held interests in other banks in the county and at one time was part owner of the Cass City Bank.

Mr. Seeley was a charter member of the Caro Presbyterian church, one of the church elders since its beginning, and a generous contributor to the support of the society.

Mr. Seeley is survived by his wife, two sons, Clinton F. Seeley, a member of the banking firm, and Barrett Seeley, a student at the University of Michigan, and two daughters, Mrs. Sabin Hooper of Boyne City and Miss Alice Seeley at home.

Caro business places were closed during the funeral service from two to four o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

The death of Mr. Seeley leaves but one surviving of the charter members of the Caro Presbyterian church, Mrs. Fred E. Kelsey of Cass City.
